Our Rail Services Team was engaged by the selling agent to assess the wheel condition of two 0916 Plasser Tampers and perform machining to prepare the assets to ensure the full and correct wheel profile prior to international shipment.
Following the client advice to machine one wheel set we obtained accurate profile pre-machining using the Calipari wheel laser system, our team ascertained the required wheel reprofiling and prepared the site accordingly. This included establishing a barricaded exclusion zone to ensure a safe machining environment and eliminate risk to onsite personnel.
The machining process was carried out using the portable wheel lathe operated via a CNC-controlled system. Upon completion, our team issued a detailed wheel report outlining the work performed and the condition of all machined wheels. The operational site was then cleaned, ensuring all debris and waste were removed.
Our Logistics operations Team managed the end-to-end transport of the tampers from the manufacturer’s facility in St Marys, NSW, through to the client’s nominated destination at the Port of Dammam. This included loading the assets for road transport, coordinating delivery to Port Kembla, overseeing all lifting and transfer operations onto RoRo Mafis, ocean freight from Australia to Saudi Arabia including transhipment in Korea. All planning and operations were completed under strict schedule and budget constraints.
